Summer Camp Paphos, Cyprus

5th July 2015

AMAZING Talent Night

Today we allowed our campers to have a 'late' wake-up at 08:30 and there were no activities planned in the morning. Instead all of them were asked to tidy their rooms which were then inspected by Michael one by one. The rooms are cleaned every 2 days by the Hotel staff and today, the bed sheets were changed as we are half way through the session. Those who finished tiding their room on time were able to swim in the pool, play board games and there was even a competitive rugby match which the campers organized and run on their own!

In the afternoon we gave the campers and counselors time to prepare their show for the Droushia's Got Talent night taking place at the village amphitheater. We have to admit that our expectations were surpassed by the campers' performances especially given the short time they had to prepare their part. The evening's presenters were Stevo from the staff and the very entertaining Malek N. from the campers. We had a few songs from Sarah Jo & Tarek, Mourad, Olga & Reem & Salma, Katherine & Tania while Elise read a poem she wrote herself. A group of 5 girls put on short but impressive dance show, Alina, Joude, Eve, Laeticia and Claudia while Faik danced solo. The Piano performances by Malek and Fares were simply incredible and Luay played the street drums. All the counsellors put on a hilarious lip-singing show together and several put on individual performances as well such as Eric's dance and martial arts show, Michael's & Stefanie's song and dance of Aladin's Whole New World, Zahra rapping about camp life and Andrey's breathtaking read of the Charlie Chaplin's "Great Dictator's Speech" for which the words are very powerful and touched the campers' hearts (we even had several with tears in their eyes after this one!).

Another extremely positive element that we observed tonight was the unconditional, full support that the kids showed for each other, even when some were shy on stage they found the courage to perform because of the strong support and participation of the crowd. A wonderful night came to an end and all our campers went to sleep with a sense of achievement, excited about the week to follow.
