Summer Camp Paphos, Cyprus

3rd July 2015

Exceptional Beach Olympics and Unforgettable Birthday Parties

This morning, the entire camp went to a traditional Cypriot house reconstructed into a museum. The children had the chance to learn how bread and the famous Halloumi goat cheese were made in the past, the traditional way. They also visited the museum and finally observed basket-weaving. A few local old ladies were among our hosts, they proudly showed off their techniques and skills that are passed down from generation to generation, it was wonderful to see the children interact with them. At the end of the 3-hour session they got to enjoy the warm bread which they made, fresh out the stone oven together with the delicious Halloumi cheese.

Following the afternoon All-Camp Meeting it was time for the very exciting Beach Olympics. Campers were divided into 8 teams and participated in 8 different competitions / challenges including various types of relays, blanket volleyball, frisbee-golf, sand pictionary, football penalty shootout, ultimate frisbee and the water ballon passing game. Aphrodite B were the big winners of the Beach Olympics but what's more important is that absolutely everyone had an amazing time!

After dinner, our happy campers gathered in the pool area on their own initiative and started 'demanding' we play music and let them dance. Given the unanimous request by all the kids at camp, we had a quick staff meeting and agreed to change the evening activity into a pool party which was absolutely fantastic! Two of our campers, Reem and Luay, had their birthdays today, each of them got their own cake and they were very happy to dance the night away, celebrating their birthday with their new friends at camp. Another wonderful day at Village Camps Cyprus came to an end with everyone having a smile on their face!
