Summer Camp YPO-JLU

15th July 2019

Rocking out in the Alps

It’s our first full day in Switzerland! After the campers arrived yesterday and settled in, they woke up to the stunning panoramic views of the mountains from outside their hotel windows. Wow, how could such majestic environment be so close to us!

We started this morning off with the first speaker of the camp session, Rhett Godfrey. At YPO-JLU, we have a huge line-up of speakers to inspire our leaders of tomorrow; with motivation and highlighting various communication skills. These speakers mix public speaking with a workshop environment that gets the campers thinking and reflecting about how they see the world and their communities.

Right after lunch was rock climbing and dirt scootering. Half the campers went to rock climbing and the other half went dirt scootering. Rock climbing is such an inter-personal sport to do, because as we climbed up the beautiful quarry outside of camp; we can go as fast as we want or to our own tempo. While we are climbing it feels independent, but we also rely on a team to help us get to the top - as seen from the campers encouraging each other on as well as belaying for each other to climb.

We then ended the evening with laser tag. In two teams - team red and team blue, we got to run around in huge arenas, with glowing armour. It was a fun way to end the night as our competitive side came out but also just having lots of fun and laughs during the game.
