Summer Camp YPO-JLU

7th July 2019

Rock on for an Epic Day!

This morning in the beautiful Swiss alps, our camp started the morning bright and early with two speakers, Kirsty Gittens. Kirsty Gittens is a world leader in empowering individuals to achieve their goals through cultivating highly effective habits. This helps increases productivity and develops maturity. Our campers learned about proven personal-leadership systems through Kirsty’s speech and interactive activities.

In the afternoon after lunch we kicked it into high gear - with rock climbing! Staring up a huge rock wall with no idea of where to start can be intimidating, so our excellent rock climbing councillors lead the way. Soon the campers were buckled into their harness scaling the walls like real-life Spider-man. As each camper climbed to their own pace, there was a shout of support and glee from the team below. This is an activity that’s truly about each camper’s own personal journey and how they want to navigate up it.

When campers got more comfortable and fast climbing up the rocky wall, the councillors put out a challenge of doing it with no sight - via blindfold. And all of the campers - while scared at first, eventually stepped up to the challenge! Everyone had a fun time.

As the sun slowly sets over the mountains creating stunning silhouettes of nature in Leysin - the campers were getting ready for their evening activity to end the day. Putting on their skates, everyone was getting ready for ice skating and curling in a huge state of the art ice rink facility!! Some campers were new to ice skating - so there was a lot of holding onto each other as people joyfully glide throughout the rink. Others went curling, learning a new sport on the first day on the ice! It was the perfect way to wrap up an epic day at YPO-JLU.
