Exploring New Waters with Canyoning and Speakers

We had another wonderful day at JLU-YPO Village Camps! We started our day early, heading straight to the river where campers went canyoning, some for the very first time. In this activity, campers had to climb over rocks, navigate the river current, and often jump from rock faces into the natural pools below. It wasn't always easy, especially once you peaked over the edge, but we are so proud to say that every camper participated with enthusiasm and such great spirit.

Our second speaker on the agenda, Neale Godfrey, shared her inspiring story of how she destroyed the glass ceiling and became the first female CEO of a bank. She did not stop there of course, she continue to push upwards and outwards into achieving great things for herself and becoming a trailblazer for equality in the workforce.

She contributes a lot of her success to the mastery of "the pitch". She challenged students with a problem: unicorns were endangered, the marshmallows were melting and overall world happiness was at risk. Campers then had to break off into groups and create a magical pitch to solve this grave issue. Every proposition presented was extremely creative and well thought out, making it difficult to choose a winner. In the end, every individual was able to gain valuable critiques to improve their communication and presentation skills.

After dinner we had an evening with Kerry Max Cook, where he shared his heartbreaking story of being falsely imprisoned. We will not do his story injustice by trying to summarize it here; however, we will say that campers were moved by his experiences and welcomed him with opened arms.
