Summer Camp YPO-JLU
Getting to Know Leysin
Day two was our first official full day, where our first of many speakers, Josh Collins, shared his entrepreneurial experience and gave an inspiring talk about how a little idea can turn into a successful and useful innovation. He showed campers how to generate new ideas and how to expand them into a successful business/product. During this time, campers were able to get into groups to come up with a "need" based on their experiences. Then they created a product/service to fulfil that need and a prototype to present their concept to their peers. With all their heads working together, they developed genius ideas, which ranged from increasing safety on train transportation to apps that help students better navigate their early morning routine and many, many more.
Afterwards, we had lunch at the hotel and then headed to the Suchet forest for some team building activities. The campers were divided into two groups, where their communication and teamwork skills were tried and tested. They worked together to complete complicated tasks, like lowering a hula hoop as a team, making shapes with rope (while blindfolded), crossing 14 meters of ground by only using 14 blocks of wood; but of course, it was not as simple as it sounds... because there was a twist with every activity! We are so proud to say that each team was able to complete every challenging task successfully and with their great spirit, wit, abilities, and of course, each other.
We then returned to the hotel, where students had some free time to relax or, like most of them did, buy heaps load of Swiss chocolate.
After dinner, campers became better acquainted with the picturesque town of Leysin by embarking on a scavenger hunt, where they located specific points on the map, while also completing certain tasks along the way. Tasks included tasting all the delicious, natural waters for which Switzerland is famous, snapping selfies with colourful cows, interacting with locals, and so much more. All with scenic views in the backdrop. In the end, we counted up all the points, and gave out prizes to the top three teams who visited the most spots and completed the most tasks. Then it was time for bed after another adventure-filled day... we can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
