Summer Camp Leysin, Switzerland
New Week, New Memories!
Today was super hot, and not just because the campers were on fire with their activities! After applying a lot of sun cream and ensuring everyone had hats and water, the first day of a new week at camp began!
The Greenies kept cool in the hot sun in their Big Green event, where they pretended to be pirates while playing water games such as Splat (with a water gun twist), Pass The Water Balloon, and Wave Slide! They ended their day with the Spy Kids activity and putting on a play for the camp!
In the early morning, the yellow group packed their bags for a night out at the hut hike led by our fantastic adventure leader Joe, every single tiny human tried their very best to reach the top, and halfway up we had a lunch break where many chilled out in the baking sunshine. The group split and the strongest continued up to the peak while the rest trekked down to have a dip in the glacier lake, playing many games and making friends along the way (like the local dog that guards the cosy hut of Pic-Chaussy) he decided to have a swim with the kids as well (or maybe he is just a secret lifeguard). Some of our campers befriended a new pet, a beautiful blue beetle and named him Kendrick Lamar. The evening finished off with Joe making BBQ dinner for all and sitting around the campfire, toasting marshmallows, singing songs and telling stories, until the darkness set in and the stars came out to play. This morning the Red Adventurers got their adrenaline pumping with mountain biking and reached new heights in rock climbing (some even completed the hardest climb!) Other Reds enjoyed tennis camp, sports camp, Performing Arts, our fantastic STEM program and language courses! Their midday sports activity included a variety of exciting sports such as Dance, Bouldering, Yoga, Tennis, Mini Golf and Dance!
The adventure Blues began their day with the "Lost" activity in the forest where they learned survival skills! The others also spent a morning of STEM, Languages, Performing Arts, Tennis and Sports camp. Their midday sports activity gave them the option of trying out Football, Archery, Mountain Biking, Art, Bob Sled or Street Basketball.
At our midday camp meeting, the counsellors announced which team won the Festival Friday event! It was...... drum roll, please..... THE WATER TEAM! (But really everyone was a winner for participating) This was revealed by the counsellors jumping out at the campers with water guns- eliciting many laughs from the children!
The evening World Cup event for the Blues and Reds got spirits blazing, with intense Volleyball, Basketball, and Football matches!!! The campers chose to join and play in one of the following countries: Brazil, Spain, France, Cameroon, USA, Norway, France and Sweden! All campers showed amazing teamwork in these sports and did themselves proud!
After a satisfyingly exciting day of sports, learning and adventure, the campers have once again all turned in for the night.
