Summer Camp England

16th July 2012

CAMP HAS STARTED!

Lots of nervous campers awoke this morning well rested after lots of travelling on Sunday anticipating the start of their morning programmes. In York, we are extremely lucky to be able to provide our campers with eight programmes: British Council Accredited English Language Camp, David Rivers Village Camps Basketball Programme, Activity/Adventure Camp, Football Camp, Golf Camp, Riding Camp, Performing Arts Camp and the Creative Arts Camp.

The nerves were soon forgotten as all of our campers immersed themselves in all the activities. All of our performing arts campers attempted the three disciplines of singing, dance and drama, whilst our football players worked hard to show their skills and talent in front of Neil, our Football Coordinator. Meanwhile, in what was an exciting morning, the Creative Arts programme worked in pairs to create outlines of their own bodies and then paint, draw or create abstract art to explain how they felt on the insides. A real interesting and rewarding morning experience.

Meanwhile the English students, the Golfers and Riders were undertaking different assessments so that our counsellors and professionals could understand what were the levels of which to start each of the individual education plans for each camper.

This afternoon may have been a little boring when we explained the rules of camp and fire evacuation procedures, but they were made more interesting by Bushy, Nate & Jono (counsellors) doing a dramatic performance explaining the rules after they were all interpreted into Russian, French, Italian and Spanish.

However the real fun aged based activities started this evening, when each Colour Group; Yellow, Red and Blue started doing Leadership and teamwork games. These games were designed to break down the barriers, get to know other people and have loads and loads of fun. I think that our photos from tonight really show that.

Session 2 has started with a bang, with many returning campers, but also many new faces. All counsellors and campers alike are really excited for a great two weeks in York, England. Stay tuned for our exciting adventures over the next two weeks.
