Summer Camp Paphos, Cyprus
What a wonderful EXCURSION DAY!
The entire group departed from camp early in the morning on their full-day excursion starting with a visit at the Paphos Mosaics, a UNESCO World Heritage site with exceptional architectural and historic value. Following the modern trends and in order to maintain a high-level of interest among the campers, we assigned each team the challenge of taking a photo of their group (selfie) in front of a mosaic and later re-enacting the image using every member of the team. The visit lasted for about 1h30 and it was followed by packed lunch at a picnic site where campers had the chance to relax under the shade.
Our next stop was the famous Petra tou Romiou also known as Aphrodite's Rock. Micheal, one of our Cypriot counselors explained to the kids the story of Aphrodite, who according to Greek mythology, was the goddess of love and beauty. She was born here and she rose from the sea onto this gorgeous beach blessing the island of Cyprus with eternal beauty!
Then came one of programme highlights, which was the visit to the Fasouri Waterpark that is among the largest such parks in Europe. To put it simply, our campers had an incredible 3 hours at the waterpark, trying all the different slides, challenge courses, lazy river, wave pool etc. The excitement was obvious in everyone`s faces and we departed with a group of very happy campers! Having spent a lot of energy at the park, it was time for a great dinner at a traditional village tavern reserved exclusively for our group. The well-balanced meal included several Cypriot specialties in the menu that most campers were trying for the first time.
The last stop of the day was the scenic port of Paphos with its impressive Venetian fortress and the small traditional fishing boats, the kids enjoyed an ice cream and a stroll along the port before getting back on the bus to return to camp. All in all this was a long and busy day (14 hours away from camp) but certainly well-worth it for everyone involved. Our happy and at the same time exhausted campers were in bed within minutes of arriving to camp with a smile on their face!
