Summer Camp Leysin, Switzerland

1st July 2024

New year, new camp!

The sun has risen on our first full day at Village Camps and those patches of blue peeking out of the fog opened up to reveal the stunning mountain vista!

Our campers have had an exciting day today, continuing to nurture new friendships by participating in ice-breaker exercises such as vortex, zombie dodgeball and tarp drop!

Our Greens learned a lot today. The “Jurassic Camp” activity in the morning had them learn about dinosaurs and even watch a volcano explode in a cool science experiment! They continued to expand their knowledge by learning new skills at Archery and at Suchet!

Campers in the French and English programs got to meet their incredible teachers and become familiar with what they’ll be learning about in the next two weeks. The Science campers got to conduct a series of experiments which whet their appetite for more!

Our adventure campers, the Yellows, the Reds and the Blues participated in a big team-building activity, where they got to work closely together and learn more about each other. In one activity, the campers had to hold each other up using only a rope, testing their trust in each other! Other activities were to guide their blindfolded friends around obstacles and to share personal goals for Village Camps with each other.

After the initial team-building activities the Yellows, Reds and Blues split up to have their own separate adventures!

The Yellows got to flex their sporty side as they played tennis and had a go at bouldering at new sports. It was lovely to see the campers with more experience in these sports help the others out. Afterwards, they all went shopping in the village and came back to camp with chocolates galore! Then, with the Greens, they spent their evening playing one of the most exhilarating and iconic games at camp: Terminator.

In the afternoon the Reds participated in the Big Red Raceoff. Divided into four big teams, they got to compete in different water-related sports for ice cream! Participation was crucial in order to win the big prize with little chance to stay dry! They ended their day with the wickedly fun “survival” activity where they played tag in the forest!

Our LTC campers had a day that was just as inspiring as it was exciting! Our very own David Allen led a talk on the qualities of a leader, and afterwards, the LTC campers left to go on a high rope adventure through the trees! The Blues joined forces with LTC in the evening to play dodgeball together after the “Big Blue” activity!

All in all, today has been a fantastic start to what will certainly be an unforgettable two weeks!
