Summer Camp Leysin, Switzerland

30th July 2011

Excursion Day!

Today was Excursion Day for all the campers, it gives the kids a chance to get out of Leysin and experience something new. All the campers are able to sleep in a little, have a late breakfast and start their activities later than usual.

The Greens and Yellows started their day at the Cailler Chocolate Factory, they first took a tour of the building which included an interactive history of Cailler and a look at the process of creating the delicious chocolates. The last room the kids entered was the tasting room, they first learnt how to taste the chocolate they then were set free on over 20 different varieties of Cailler chocolate. After lunch all the campers jumped back on the bus and headed to Vevey for shopping in the beautiful town.

The Reds had a very exciting excursion, they started by taking a coach to the beautiful city of Bern. Once there they visited the famous Bern Bear Pit, the bears of Bern now live in a 6000 m2 park along the banks of the River Aare. They can still access the large bear pit, which is now a historic monument. After the Bears the Reds had a chance to do some shopping in Bern and get a bite to eat, they then headed to a near by cinema to watch the most anticipated blockbuster of the summer; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

The Blues first had to take a train from Leysin to the exciting city of Geneva, once there they were able to explore the city for a few hours either taking in the sights or shopping. They then took a short walk to the UN building where they were taken on a very interesting tour. The blue then finished their excursion at Fetes de Geneve, there were al sorts of stalls and attraction lining the river all through the centre of Geneva, they were given money to get food and and enjoy the festivities.
