Summer Camp England
New beginnings
The first day of camp is always full of excitement! After a 7:45 breakfast, our campers were divided into their programme groups and taken to their sites for the morning. Golfers and Horse Riders went off-site to their specific locations, while the rest of campers enjoyed their morning at Queen Ethelburga's College. At 12:00 we met for lunch and had some free time before session C, in which our campers played some games in their colour groups.
At 3PM we had our daily all-camp meeting. Since it was the first day, we read the rules of camp in 5 different languages! It's important for all campers to understand what we expect from them and the rules that ensure everyone can live together in a safe and integrating environment. The explanation of the rules was supported by some funny sketches of our Performing Arts team and we also had an exclusive fashion show to display all the available VC merchandising!!
Our 3PM meeting is usually a very fun and emotional moment, since it's when we tell our campers about special things happening at camp, we sometimes play mini crowd games and we read our Secret Friends messages, in which campers can write a message to anyone in camp. For example, "you were great in football", "thank you for helping me Julie, you are the best" or "the yellow kingdom rules!!!!".
After our meeting, the VCTV programme was introduced and we took our campers on a tour of the facilities. In the evening, Reds and Blues played some water games and Yellows enjoyed movie night!
For first time campers, these first days might be a bit of a challenge. New friends, new food, new routines... But with the help of our cousellors, we will make sure all campers have the best summertime ever!
- Breakfast: Multigrain bagel and porridge; choice of cereals, toast and fresh fruit!
- Lunch: Pasta lunch, salad buffet and orange jelly.
- Dinner: Bratwurst or veggie sausages; served with potato mash, gravy and mixed beans or cabbage. Fruit salad for dessert.
