Summer Camp Ardèche, France
Yawwwwhooooo!
Wow! Camp has begun and we are all so stoked to be here. It's been a late start, but the vibe is bumpin and we are gearing up for a massive couple of weeks! I'm Pebble, the resident photographer and journalist, and I'll be chronicling the events of the camp and uploading the photos here (and to Facebook, for those interested - add VC Ardeche :))
The day officially began with the arrival of the first campers, Cava and Elena from Spain, and was soon followed by a slow trickle of campers over the course of the afternoon. The bus, coming all the way from Geneva, didn't arrive until about 8.00 PM, so it was a quick check-in before sitting down for a welcome dinner of chicken cordon bleu with roast potatoes, pasta salad, coleslaw, and a salad bar. After dinner, the whole camp headed out on to the main field for an official welcome and an introduction to the camp. Now it's nearly 11 and later than the campers bedtimes, so staff are out putting them all to bed and preparing for the next day.
There are many returning campers, new campers, young campers, younger campers, and new friendships already sprouting up amongst the group. I'm already very impressed by the kids I've met so far - we have a food blogger, a cinematographer, musicians, rappers, and artists of all kinds! It's hot down here on the Ardeche - about 30 today - and a chorus of cicadas fills the night air. Tomorrow the campers begin activities, heading out to caving, canoeing, hiking, and French lessons in their respective groups.
See you tomorrow!
