Summer Camp Ardèche, France

1st July 2015

Another day dawns...

Quote of the day: You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.

AM News:

We are all set here for a great day of activities. After another delicious french breakfast of pain au chocolat and cereals the campers were all excited to rush off to clean up their tents and prepare a skit in line with the theme of "Under the hot sun". Our tent inspectors Maria and Annalise were wowed and amazed with some great skits and songs on their inspection walk.

Our river programme campers are just getting ready now to head off for their day-long activities. We have our River Yellows getting their first taste of cave exploration today where they will have to engage their team-working skills to navigate their way through the depths of the Ardeche underworld. Our River Reds are getting to test their endurance with a day of rock-climbing at the local Fontgarnide climbing sight. The River Blues are taking to the waters today to have a morning of canoe skills which they will get to put to the test on their mini-descent this afternoon where they will paddle through 6 rapids.

The French programme campers are settling into their french class for the morning where their teachers have prepared some fun team-building sessions for them as well. This afternoon will see the French Yellows heading off for their exploration of our local cave where they will have to brave the mud to find the secret hidden chamber. The French Reds will be testing their limits with some epic rock-climbing in a cave situated on the shores of the Ardeche river. The French Blues will be hitting the refreshing waters of the Ardeche river with some flatwater canoe instruction where they will get the chance to learn some new skills and play some water favourites like Canoe hockey and Kamikaze.

Tune in later to hear how they all get on in their activities...

PM News:

What a fantastic day we have had here! The sun has been beating down on us but we have all made sure to keep hydrated with lots of water, shade and sunscreen.

Our river programme campers all had a great time on their day long activities while our French programme campers enjoyed a nice shady lunch at camp before starting their afternoon activities.

It was a delight to see all the campers coming back to camp at half 4 full of bright smiles and excitement ready to share their stories with their friends.

Siesta time saw lots of campers taking the time to chill in the shade, take a dip in the cooling river and even tie-dye their new VC t-shirts.

After a delicious dinner cooked up by Chef Doug the campers took to the playing fields with a burst of colour where they battled it out to win the ultimate "Colour war".

The time has come now to say goodnight. We are off to enjoy storytime then are all ready to hit the bed ready for another full day of exciting activities tomorrow. Good night!
