Summer Camp Ardèche, France
Rolling through the countryside
Activity Groups 1 and 2 today embraced the heat of the Ardeche, and pedaled throughout the surrounding hills on our mountain biking excursion.
The morning began with a run down on the operation of mountain bikes in using them effectively to get up and down hills, which there were a lot of over the day's expedition! This was followed by a favourite warm up game of 'Chicken', in which players attempt to get their opponents to put their feet on the ground, without touching them or their bike. The winner being - Ignacio! Hooray!
The team left camp, and challenged themselves with the uphill legs, to savour the speedy downhill reward. As the heat increased, the desire to get to our lunch spot inspired riders to pedal at their hardest. And it was worth it! Campers found welcome respite from the hot weather in a refreshing rocky pool, playing games and relaxing.
Easily the biggest challenge of the day was the ascent of Icecream Mountain. And everyone got to the top! Well, nearly everyone ... before we reached lunch, the youngest member of our group, Guilia, aged 9, had a small topple from her bike. Oh dear! Not to worry, she travelled with our safety van from then on, and is all smiles!
Meanwhile, Les Francais took and excursion to the beautiful walled city of Avignon. Here they were treated to a cultural spectacular, seeing two theatrical performances - a musical and a physical theatre piece. C'est magnifique!
