Summer Camp Ardèche, France
The heat is on!
Summer has well and truly hit the Ardeche, and the heat encouraging any opportunity to cool down by getting wet. As was proven today with Activity Groups 1 and 2.
Campers braved the warm weather with VTT, a mountain bike through the surrounding hills of the Ardeche. The activity started with a run down on the operation of mountain bikes in using them effectively to get up and down hills, which there were a lot of over the day's expedition! This was followed by a favourite warm up game of 'Chicken', in which players attempt to get their opponents to put their feet on the ground, without touching them or their bike. Super fun, and won by Nicolo - well done.
As the team left camp and the day heated up, there was much squirting of oneself and each other with water at every stop, and welcome respite found at refreshing rocky pool for lunch. The biggest challenge of the day was easily overcome by the whole team - making it all the way to the top of Icecream Mountain. Hooray!
The day was almost injury free, and here a special mention goes out to our wonderful camp nurse, Anna, who took a graceful fall over the handle bars on a downhill leg - oh dear! There was much concern from all, but the Australian nurse is made of tough stuff, and powered on all smiles for the day.
Meanwhile Les Francais group were feeling the heat as well on an enjoyable excursion to the nearby town of Orange. The cultural experience took the students to an ancient Roman Theatre, where they undertook some bookwork about the theatre's history, it's origins, the architecture and how the Roman's approached the theatrical craft. This was topped off by a packed lunch in the atmospheric auditorium itself.
After lunch, the group travelled to Grignan, a typical Provence town, complete with a French Renaissance castle and fields of lavender. The group indulged in local homemade Lavander icecream, and nougat, to ease the harsh heat of the day. Yum!
