Summer Camp Ardèche, France

30th June 2010

The Photos Tell The Story!

Our merry band of campers has been split into two groups for today's activities. Some of Activity Group 2 and all of the French group disappeared over the hills and far away for a days Canyoning, lost in the medieval depths of the Cevennes. Here, after kitting themselves out with wet suits, helmets and harnesses, they spent the day descending the canyon - a succession of slides, paddles, jumps, slithers, squeezes, swims... plus the occasional ducking. Those who listened to instructions on how to close their waterproof containers correctly also got to enjoy an 'eeepair sondweesh' at lunch time. With our old friend, local guide Alain, there was also plenty of opportunity to continue practicing French.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the other group of campers, a mixture of Activity Groups 1 & 2, kicked off with the Arboreal Antics Adventure. In this they help each other climb as far as possible up a 9 metre tree. It's not easy. There are 3 routes of varying difficulty to choose from. It seemed that raucous encouragement from those holding the safety ropes on the ground was as important as physical ability in getting to the top. Once there, the campers launch themselves off the top of the tree and are lowered gently to the ground by their team mates.

After another one of cook Andrew's mouth-watering dinners (his hearty salads are becoming a favorite) this evening's activity was'Sports Sauvage'. An Ardeche speciality involving a great deal of running around, strategy and risk taking. And then..... Shower and bed. The World Cup, what's that?
