Summer Camp England
Exploring York
Because of the Tour of France going through the York City our usual excursion to York took place on Monday instead of Sunday. It would be a shame to miss such a beautiful city! Thus after the morning programs and a quick lunch on the campus, each colour group got onto a bus to take them to York. The Adventures and Activities campers spent their morning kayaking so they joined us at an agreed meeting spot in York.
Yellows took their fluffy teddy bears on a sight seeing tour around the town and took pictures in the most beautiful and interesting parts of this old city with the help of their counsellors.
Reds went on a York Photo Hunt which consisted of several photo challenges around the York City. One these challenges for example was to create VC YORK sign with their bodies. A great team work and creativity was required while the campers visited all the York's most important landmarks.
Blues participated in a great game called Where is the VC Wally. The campers got to explore York on their own while looking for their counsellors hiding within the city walls. We are never too old to have fun! The groups that were able to find the VC Wallies and to complete their little challenges (such as buying fudge in the local shop or discovering why there are tables in front of the little shops on the famous Shambles street) won points for their team. The teams were scored on completing the task, good manners as well as speaking English only :). Fun and challenging as always!
The kids then enjoyed some free time of shopping for more than two hours. This gave them an opportunity to taste the delicious fudge from the Fudge Kitchen and visit some of the artisans and artists of the city. After a dinner in the town it was time to head back for the evening programs.
The Reds got to use the indoor pool as their evening activity - Pool Party! A great way of relax after a busy day they had! Counsellor groups took a rotation on different activities around the pool such as pool games, relaxing in the Jacuzzi, and having free time in the swimming pool. They finished of their evening with some snacks and then went to bed for a well-deserved sleep.
The Blue House evening program was the Ultimate Dodgeball ! They got to use the face paint to painting their faces in their teams colours and dress up in funny costumes.
Yellows finished the day with a fun game called Egg Drop . Using all kinds of building materials they had to find a way to protect Mr Egg to survive his jump our of the accommodation window.
