Summer Camp England

7th August 2013

Excursions galore!

Today, camp emptied out as nearly every program left in the morning on an excursion. Activity & Adventure left for a two-day long excursion, spending the morning rock climbing and rock scrambling and the afternoon abseiling and gorge walking, before spending the night in a campsite. Football spent the day in Manchester visiting Old Trafford, home of the famous Manchester United team. Creative Arts went for a walk around a sculpture park, collecting inspiration for their next few days in the program. English went on a sailing trip down a river on rafts that they had built themselves. Golf had its final tournament, the results of which will be revealed on the last night and Horse Riding, though off-campus, spent the morning following its normal program. Meanwhile, Performing Arts held the fort at home and added finishing touches to their show before their big performance in two days.

After a quiet morning, all programs except for Football and Activity & Adventure were back in time for the second afternoon session, which was also spent within the programs in fun and relaxing games. After dinner, the whole camp changed into swimwear to play in a fun outdoor game of Wet and Wild. Blues, Reds and Yellows were mixed into teams and played in water-based relays and games, such as a kickball game in which each base was a safe zone between a barricade eggs, wet sponges or water guns. By the end of the games, everyone was soaked and thankful for the warm evening sun's presence.

However, the night was not over. After a thirty minute break for campers and counsellors to change and warm up, the whole camp (except for Activity & Adventure) met in the theatre for a surprise evening activity: Mission Impossible. In this camper v. counsellor game, campers had to cross the campus without getting tagged by a counsellor. It was a game of speed but mostly stealth and, although it proved to be close to impossible, nine winners made it across.

The evening was a huge success and, after two exhausting activities, bedtime was quick and easy. With two days left, maximum energy is a must so as to soak up the jam-packed end of camp!
