Summer Camp England
BRING ON BIG NIGHT!
This morning was spent with the various morning programs. Football was out in the fields, enjoying a few rays of sun between the clouds, Activity & Adventure played a game of Eco Mystery around campus, Performing Arts started planning its show, which will be performed in front of the whole camp in one week, Creative Arts continued its various projects, English played some games and studied hard and Horse Riding and Golf were off campus working on their respective skills.
After lunch, campers spent the first session of the afternoon in sign-up activities such as volleyball, watercolour painting and an egg-challenge. Although all of the activities thus far had been relatively relaxing, the tension was rising since breakfast and continued escalating during the 3pm meeting as the whole camp separated into Big Night teams and planned its strategies to ensure a win. The Red Raving Lions, The Green Rapping Snakes, the Yellow Rocking Lions and the Blue Punk Penguins spent the last session of the afternoon polishing their entrances and chants and building up the excitement and tension.
By dinner, everyone was ready, excited and - quite frankly - nervous as the dining hall echoed with chants and cheers for the different teams. All the teams met at 7pm for the start of Big Night in the Genesis Sports Hall and performed their entrances. After their entrances, all the teams took part in various races and relays, cheered at the top of their lungs until their voices cracked and showed good sportsmanship with all of the other teams. Finally, the Green Team was pronounced winner of Big Night, a worthy title earning them a pizza party as a prize.
The excitement of it took time to lower, particularly with an exciting weekend of excursions to look forward to. However, tiredness from the past week of events soon took over and Village Camps York gradually quietened down to a deep slumber filled with dreams of colourful animals eating pizza.
