Summer Camp England

Preparation Time!

Today was a very busy day! Every morning program was packed with activities: Horse Riding started jumping, Activity & Adventure played an intense game of capture the flag, Creative Arts made masks and built a fictional character together, Performing Arts continued developing their skills in dance, singing and acting, English continued its hard work and Football and Golf - despite a few showers - valiantly played on through the morning. In our first afternoon session, campers broke off into sign-up activities such as sculpting, Pilates and Gaelic football.

Our 3pm all-camp meeting featured camp favourites: Secret Friends and Kangaroo Court. Secret Friends is a Village Camps tradition in which campers or counsellors write anonymous notes to their friends or crushes, which are then read out-loud to the entire camp. Kangaroo Court is a VC York special, in which campers and counsellors are put on a fake trial for having done something silly and are then punished accordingly once the entire crowd has proclaimed them as "GUILTY!"

After our meeting, the campus started buzzing with activity as the whole camp looked ahead and planned for two exciting events to come: International Night and Big Night. In our second afternoon session, campers broke off into groups from their countries and, with the help of counsellors, prepared a presentation about their country and planned what food they would cook for International Night next Tuesday. Then, after dinner, campers broke off into their teams for Big Night. The green team, red team, blue team and yellow team began planning their entrance and making their mascots, based on themes that had been assigned to them. Though it will be on Friday, the air was already filled with excitement and loud chants as Big Night marks the peak of competitiveness here at camp.

By bedtime, campers and counsellors alike were left with a lot to think about, a lot to memorise but especially a lot to look forward to!
