Summer Camp England

30th July 2013

Popcorn, face paint, bouncy castles??? OH MY!

I very much like VC, because I'm always busy. I've done a lot of projects in my program (creative arts) like masks, pictures from dots, etc. Yesterday was Carnival night; we played different active games with friendly people and great staff! That was amazing! - Jane

As Jane summed up in her VCTV blog post, today, the fun really kicked off! Now that campers had learned all there was to know about how camp works and gotten comfortable in their new surroundings, "real" camp could finally begin!

In the morning, all the various morning activities started their programs. Football was already hard at work by 9:15 in the fields, training hard to improve their skills with the help of our coach Neil O'Donnell. Creative Arts settled into their cozy arts room and launched into their new projects, soon to be put on display for the rest of the camp to see. The English program, after having been sorted into different classes and levels, started its curriculum (filled to the brim with games and fun activities to come). Performing Arts worked on developing the skills of all eight of the participants, who learn to dance, sing and act by the end of the two weeks. Horse riding and Golf, more determined than ever, woke up earlier than everyone so as to be on their respective sites in time to enjoy a full morning of their activities. Finally, Activity & Adventure got a true taste of what their two weeks to come will look like. Their first excursion consisted of building their own rafts and testing them in a river. Though most of them got more of a taste of the water than they would have cared for, all came back delighted with the day!

After lunch, the whole camp broke off into various activities that campers had signed up for the night before, such as cooking, ultimate Frisbee, rugby or photography.

The creme de la creme, however, was after dinner when the whole camp met in the Genesis gym to enjoy Carnival Night! With over twenty different stations and games and popcorn and candies galore, Carnival Night was certainly a success. After playing in giant sumo suits, running through a blow up obstacle course, bobbing for apples and having their fortunes told, campers and counselors took part in a color house Zumba challenge.

By bedtime, with sugar and excitement coursing through everyone's veins and faces covered in face paint smiling from ear to ear, everyone could tell that Village Camps Session Three had now officially begun!
