Summer Camp England

25th July 2013

Slam Dunk

As we welcomed back the bright summer sun to York, all of our programs and activities worked at their full potential whether on the pitch, the stage or in the classroom, every single camper is busy and ready to go. It's no surprise either with Creative Arts finishing off their final projects, whilst English and VCTV reflected on what they have learnt and their experiences this summer. The Horse Riding and Golf programs were busy as per usual, improving and evaluating their skills meanwhile Activity and Adventure were only just returning, tired but satisfied, from their overnight campout. It was time for our football team to be training hard for their big match on Friday as Performing Arts also prepared for a different kind of show.

However today it was a chance for our basketball team to show what they had been working towards for the past two weeks in the much anticipated Campers vs. Counsellors match in our afternoon session. As the whole of Village Camps arrived at the indoor courts, tension and competition was high within the crowd as campers and counsellors alike fought for the title of Village Camps York Basketball champions for session 2. Neither team was to disappoint with some amazing baskets from our young talent and some interesting basketball techniques from our counsellors. In the end though it was the staff that took it home, clinching the lead with only minutes to go - congratulations counsellors, the champions for session 2!
"Today we had an interesting basketball match between the counsellors and the campers. The campers would have won( we just needed 1 more point) but our team lacked tall players. I enjoyed the competition and displayed good sportsmanship."

By the time the evening came, Village Camps was still alive with camp spirit from a day full of activity, adventures, friends and sportsmanship and after dinner got to engage in some new activities in their own house groups. Our Yellows had some more house night fun with a cooking session led by our colour leaders. Reds were able to chill out and relax in the Muggles activity centre whilst our Blues got treated to a night time pool session complete with party food and games.

Overall today can be described as 'rewarding' as we got to witness the amazing talents of our budding basketball stars, the improvement of every single camper in each of their chosen programs and the new friends and team building that has come about within our colour groups. We are looking forward to tomorrow (our last day of Village Camps for session 2) being the best day of summer yet!
