Summer Camp England
Excursion Day!
This morning began with some grey skies and cooler temperatures that may have meant harder then usual wakeups for some of our counsellors, however today was excursion day at Village Camps York!
And so right on cue, just before lunch the beautiful English summer weather that we have had so far, reappeared to brighten our Wednesday.
This was good news for our morning programs such as English who got the opportunity to get into some water sports such as raft building, sailing and canoeing whilst Creative Arts had a relaxing day off within the sculpture park.
It could have been rain, hail or shine and it wouldn't have mattered to our footballers as they made their way to the home ground of English football champions Manchester United. "With our football team and Coach Neil, we went on a tour to Old Trafford-the Manchester United Stadium. We were so lucky to visit the National Football Museum where we learned the history of legends such as Bobby Charlton" - George
Our Basketball program remained on campus this time but were put to work training hard for the campers vs. counselors match on Thursday!
Our future horse riding and golf stars went to work on their skills in an extended session that saw them off campus until after lunch, meanwhile our Performing Arts team performed non-stop in the theatre as they prepared for the upcoming end of camp show this Friday.
It was Activity and Adventure that had the biggest excursion, with the entire group leaving Village Camps for the night for a campout at How Stean Gorge that included exciting activities such as rock climbing and gorge walking.
"Activity and Adventure have had a fabulous session at VC. From rock-climbing to walking through icy cold waters, we even savoured hot sausages during our overnight camping trip. I love Village Camps!" Cheyenne, (red house).
After every program had returned home to Village Camps it was time for some exciting new evening programs designed by our colour leaders. The Yellow house competed in a real life game of Eco-Cluedo as they raced against the clock to find their hidden counselors in search of clues. Meanwhile the Red House had a good night out with a giant water fight out on the football fields as the Blues got a little bit competitive testing their knowledge at quiz night.
We can't believe that we are already in the second half of week 2, session 2 of Village Camp York. However in the words of our camp director Glenn: "These next few days will be the best days of summer at Village Camps"
And with the help of our campers and counselors alike we intend to make it a summer to remember!
