Summer Camp England
Week 2! Week 2! Week 2!
Monday morning is here again, and with it comes the second week of Session 2 at Village Camps York. Judging by the first week of fun, activity and adventure we have only great things to look forward to.
Our morning programs are now fully into their routines with Performing Arts and Creative Arts continuing to amaze us with their ever-improving talents whilst Football and Basketball are perfecting their skills in their own arenas.
The aptitude of our English students is already evident with campers from all houses being able to complete more complex activities everyday, not to mention VCTV working hard on their end of camp presentation.
Meanwhile Activity and Adventure were testing the bravery and perseverance of their team in a session of mountain boarding, as Horse Riding and Golf continued to push their groups to their best personal performances.
After a lunch break and some free time Village Camps was ready to go again, this time into a choice of afternoon activities. A worldwide themed mural was designed in art whilst our campers splashed around in some games at the pool and some of our yellow boys learned a few new martial arts techniques. Later on it was time for Joe and his team to lead cake decorating with some exciting culinary delights as a result, whilst our budding photographers got a chance to show off their skills around campus.
As always on a Monday it was time for each house to enjoy their own evening activity. Today our yellows got to try out the brand new 'Muggles' centre complete with movies, video games and a whole range of other entertainment whilst red house enjoyed a night time pool party. The blue house did things a little bit differently with an extreme dodge ball session that saw some of our campers and counsellors dress up in some less than normal attire.
Overall this week has begun the same as the last with a lot of camp spirit and vigour as our campers prepare for another action-packed week of activities and fun.
One of the best accounts of the busy life at VC can be given by our camper George G. who described for us one of his days last week:
"After an exhausting but extremely fun session in our enrolled programme-football, we made our way to VCTV! We were greeted by the Village Camps photographer Martin. He was very patient in explaining how a camera actually works! I was excited to learn interesting tips and techniques on using a camera and terminology such as shutter speed. We even went to the field and did some shots to test our photography skills. Then, we interviewed Mahad- the councillor in charge of the Netherlands and Belgium Team for International Night and put to use the journalistic strategies we learned in class. Be sure to savour the delicious Belgium chocolate and Netherlands specialty 'Patatje oorlog' also commonly known as war chips on International Night this coming Tuesday."
