Summer Camp England
York
Although we seem to have lost most of the sunshine over the weekend, the clouds were not to dampen our spirits with all normal programs making way for an excursion to York city today! Each of our houses participated in a different activity throughout York with Yellows competing in their very own photo hunt, whilst our Reds had a Pirate Scavenger Hunt and the Blue House raced to find their counsellors in a 'Where's Wally' type competition.
The day started off a little bit differently with a late breakfast giving our campers a chance to sleep-in in preparation for their busy day ahead. With some free time to chill out and then lunch in the Undercroft all three houses were on a bus heading into York.
The city of York dates back to Roman times with an amazing history, much of which can still be seen today. From the city walls to the Minster, York is a place of spectacular scenery and one that is always enjoyed by our campers as they explore the city centre themselves.
Our yellow house were split into groups and each given a mascot and a list of places. Their challenge was to first find each of these places around the city and take a picture of their entire group and mascot with it.
Meanwhile the red house could be seen racing around town in an attempt to win the scavenger hunt, with all campers trying to find or buy the items on their list.
The blue house were given something slightly different again this time having to find their counsellors who were hidden throughout the city and collect clues as to how to be the first one to the finish line.
After the challenges were over and the counsellors were busy tallying up the final scores, all our of campers had some time to themselves to go shopping and explore a little bit of the city of York.
Campers and counsellors alike always enjoy the York excursion as both a challenge and a shopping day and we are looking forward to the announcement of the winners for Session 2!
However the excitement did not stop there, with our annual and very much anticipated Talent Show! For the past few days our counsellors have been posting reminders and signup sheets for any camper or group of campers who have a unique skill, talent or interest that they want to share with us. The talent show never fails to amaze the whole camp and tonight was no exception with the singing, dancing, acting and musical talents of all participants inspiring their audience.
Maria from the Yellow House got the whole crowd dancing with her performance whilst Kim impressed with his show of acrobatics. Our counsellor Miska and her performing arts team showed off their amazing Acapella performance, also assisting Andrea from the Blue house in a singing/guitar combination.
Some of our campers shared what they thought of their Sunday in York!
"This weekend I went to Trafford centre on Saturday and we watched a movie. Then we went shopping and wandering in the mall, it was really fun! On Sunday we went to York and played a Scavenger Hunt, it was fun and when we finished we went shopping. I really enjoyed it!"

"Yesterday at VC we went at York by bus. We went shopping in groups of 3 or more. Before, councelers make us a hour to know more the limit of the area available in our free time. We did a challenge with photos. We took the toy and took a lot of picture of it in different plases. We saw a lot of cyclists. It was something like competitions. When we finished the challenge, we went shopping with my friend. We mostly went to sports shops and it was great. At 4:30, we went at the bus so we can return to VC. When we arrived at VC, we went to the talent show. It was very nice!! I really liked my Sunday."
