Summer Camp England

19th July 2013

The. Big. Night.

The most anticipated evening at Village Camps York has finally arrived. A show of colour, sportsmanship, celebration and noise called Big Night .

The day begun as per usual with our eight morning programs getting straight to work fine tuning and improving their skills in their chosen areas. Horse-riding worked hard and had fun in their last session with our wonderful counsellor Marina whilst the Golfers impressed Eric with their developing talents. Meanwhile Performing Arts and Creative Arts continue to produce work that is sure to amaze in our end of camp presentations. Activity and Adventure had fun and learnt a few new things in their 'Eco day' as the English Program improved on their projects in both their classes and VCTV. Football and basketball continued to train hard under the expertise of Neil and Coach Rivers.

The afternoon continued on as per usual with some of the activities including water colour painting, photography, track and field, ultimate Frisbee and Bushy's Nature Special.
Just as our campers were becoming tired we had just the event to cheer them up and get them excited with Big Night celebrations.
As the campers dressed up in an array of costumes, face paint and other props the campus was prepared for the evening with banners and music for each team.

All of our teams were previously given a colour and a theme such as The Blue Supermario or Red Teletubbies and were challenged to create a performance around this theme that may include singing, acting, dancing and very loud cheering.
The Yellow Flintstones gave us the loudest cheer as the Black Pokemon designed a winning banner. But that was only the half of it with all teams then competing in a series of games and activities such as Over and Under and Riverbank, not to mention the fiercely rivalled counsellor relay.

Judging by the team spirit, celebration and hard work that was put into Big Night we can safely that it has been one of our best and most entertaining nights so far at Village Camps York. Overall congratulations must go to the Green Power Rangers who have taken out the Big Night title for session 2!

One of our campers Donaven from the Red House shared his Big Night experience:
"I just had an intense session of Basketball but the fun continued on as we met in the Secret Garden to prepare for Big Night. Over thirty campers from different colour groups gathered and we quickly rehearsed the chant for our Yellow Team. We were known as the Yellow Flintstones! Our chant was hilarious but added to the excitement. Our councillors- Bushy, Tom, Maria-Sophia, Kristina, Kim and Arti, engaged us into the preparations for the banner, mascot, pom-poms, head bands, team-games (River and Bank) and the dance which we hope will win all of us PIZZA!"
