Summer Camp England

16th July 2013

Facepaint, Waterbombs and Zumba? It must be Carnival Night!

"The day I arrived at Village Camps I was a bit afraid. I was alone and didn't know anyone. I'm not really outgoing so I was scared of spending two weeks all by myself. What brightened me up though was the fact that I was doing horse-riding, my favourite sport ever, my true passion. Now I'm so happy to be here and I discovered that a lot of guys ready to make friends with you. My roommates are super nice and I'm slightly less scared than two days ago! The atmosphere is really welcoming, the day is full of activities so there is no time to get bored. Horse-riding is amazing (loving the horses and the teachers). So excited now!"

What better way is there to sum up the atmosphere and ambition that is present here at Village Camps than through the words of one of our campers, Maria Luisa? Within two days Maria has managed to capture exactly what we aim to make this summer all about: friends, fun, passion and newfound confidence.
Following this it seems that all of our programs have settled into their routines with horse riders raring to go straight from breakfast and the golfers not far behind them, determined to conquer whatever new challenges may be presented to them on the course.

Our activity and adventure crew got a quick introduction to their busy outdoor schedule with raft building being the first test of skill on their agenda today. The football and basketball teams were trained hard to improve their techniques and talents as the forecast turned out one of the best summer days for this season producing peak temperatures.
Classes officially began for English with many new and exciting activities planned by our counsellors as well as a brand new season of VCTV showcasing the investigative and journalism talents of our campers, with Maria's paragraph being a small taste of the exceptional aptitude of these young achievers.

Meanwhile inside our campus, artistic passions were flaring as our creative and performing arts programs took to the Theatre and the Genesis to work on their final pieces. We look forward to seeing the culmination of artistic skills and performing abilities of our campers at the end of this session.

However the main event of the evening was still to come with one of the biggest celebrations at Village Camps: Carnival Night . As the counsellors dressed up in an array of face paint costumes and in some cases, swimsuits, our campers were treated to a night of hysterical fun as they made their way from game to game in an attempt to win a surprise party for their room! From fortune telling to marshmallow eating and water balloons to Zumba dancing, the Secret Garden was alive with the fun and laughter of everything that is Carnival night.

After sending some very worn out campers and counsellors to bed, it was time to reflect on the challenges of the morning programs as well as the fun and excitement of our activities and evening events. But judging by the enthusiasm and liveliness of our group this session there won't be anything they can't do and we are really looking forward to the rest of the summer.
