Summer Camp England
Preparation Day
It's mid week and our campers are well and truly in the camp routine, already dressed and ready for every new activity, challenge and adventure by breakfast time.
As per usual our horse riding and golf programs were most committed leaving before every other program in order to make it to their offsite destinations. Football and basketball were quick to follow, making their way to the pitch and the courts to fine tune their skills with each of our coaches. Meanwhile in a bit of a different setting, Activity and Adventure ventured out into the wilderness and went to battle in a giant game of Capture the Flag.
Inside campus our Creative and Performing arts programs were getting busy as well, learning how to make dream catchers and rehearsing for the much anticipated end of camp performances. There was no rest for our English Program either, continuing their classes all day in the Old Hall and then VCTV in the afternoon.
Every program is well immersed in their morning routines now and it is clear already how much motivation, confidence and new skills that our campers are getting out of each of them.
Our afternoon continued with some different afternoon activities on the agenda today such as pottery, football and playground adventures. Not to mention the 'Egg Challenge' in which two of our very unfortunate counsellors Bushy and Zoe met a slightly messy end as their punishment.
From then on it was time to introduce all three of our houses to some very exciting events at Village Camps York: International Night and Big Night. Both of these events are so important at Village Camps that we give each of our teams preparation time in order to construct their performances to wow the judges.
First up was 'International Night' with campers joining a group of their own nationality being lead by a few of our counsellors.
The idea of International Night is to celebrate the amazing variety of culture that we have here at Village Camps. Our campers and staff alike are from all over the world and therefore each bring with them a different tradition or idea of what 'home' is. International Night gives each country a chance to show the rest of the world (present at Village Camps) a dance, song, skit and flag from their home nations as well as explaining what makes each country unique. After the hard work and effort that was put into preparation today it looks like we are in for some amazing presentations!
Big Night on the other hand, is not so much a celebration as a competition. With our campers once again being split up into teams but this time randomly given a colour and a theme. So who will be the winners this session and can they take down our reigning champion Angela and her Red Team? Will it be the Black Pokemon, Red Teletubbies or the Green Power Rangers that will take out the many games, songs, dances, presentations and challenges that make up BIG NIGHT. We are looking forward to finding out the answer!
