Summer Camp England
Let the Games Begin!
If ever there was a sign of an amazing first day, it would have to be the beautiful Yorkshire weather that shone down upon Village Camps this morning.
Our campers woke to a cloudless blue horizon as they all made their way to morning programs straight after breakfast. Whether it was on the pitch, the courts, the fields, the course, the stables, the arts rooms, the theatre, the upper phoenix or the old hall, the spirit of summer camp was alive and well.
Every single camper (and counsellor) upon meeting someone new, such as a roommate, a friend or a partner is inevitably going to be nervous. Especially when our campers and counsellors originate from up to 30 different countries, nationalities and cultures. However one of the most fundamental aspects of Village Camps is our ability to take a common language, a common interest and a common place and turn these 30 different communities into 1, so that no one will ever have the opportunity to be nervous again.
Therefore our morning programs traditionally begin with games and activities designed to introduce the entire group or as the saying goes "break the ice". It is also a tradition on this day that countless new friendships, new memories and new experiences begin.
Our afternoon continued on the same theme with all campers getting the choice of activities such as football, arts and crafts, tennis, baseball and swimming where they had the chance to work as an entire colour group whether it be yellow, red or blue. After our all camp meeting and going over some new rules everyone had the chance to choose another activity with the fun not stopping until right up to dinner.
By the time the evening came our campers were tired but not quite yet out of energy with a guided tour of the entire campus by their own counsellors and then some more team building activities that took full advantage of the enjoyable weather.
Now that everyone has gotten to know each other it is time for the real summer to begin with all programs, activities and adventures getting under way from 9am tomorrow morning. We are so looking forward to the talents, aspirations and experiences that session 2 at Village Camps York has to show us.
Some of the campers from our English Program: Daphne, Karim, Nastya, Dani and Sylrio already have something to share about their first experience at Village Camps on arrival day:
"Yesterday at village camps we arrived tired and hungry because we traveled from far. We play game like football or basketball, we make friends from every places of the world and then we discovered new places in VC that we never have been, we saw our rooms and talked to our room-mates and made friends. Unpacked our clothes. Our favourite part was playing football. We really liked our new councelor his name is Bushy, he is really really nice! We went to the common meeting room."
