Summer Camp England
Counting Down
Can you believe that we are already in the final days of Village Camps York for session one 2013?
Time flies when you're having fun and today was no exception with nearly all nine of our programs going on on separate excursions.
Our Creative Arts program got a well-earned day off to walk around a sculpture park and learn more about different artistic techniques whilst our English program branched out into a new type of activity and attempted to sail their own rafts, both teams taking full advantage of the cooler weather to enjoy the outdoors.
The Football program got to live out many a player's dream with their very own trip to the home ground of English football champions Manchester United, taking a tour of the grounds and coaching offices.
Meanwhile our future Blue leaders were taking on the challenge of being counsellors for an afternoon and co-ordinating their own sessions and activities (much to the entertainment of the real counsellors). After a morning of motivational speakers LTC were ready to take control of their own activities and were very successful in creating an evening program that our yellow groups absolutely loved.
Our Performing Arts campers and basketballers remained on campus but were both put to work with our singers, dancers and actors all preparing for their big end-of-camp performance on Friday night and our basketball team training hard for the campers vs. counsellors match on Thursday!
A special excursion to the Great Yorkshire Show was in order for the horse riding program with all campers enjoying a day out experiencing the agricultural practices of York. If the horse riders thought they were tired after their day out, the golfers must have been exhausted after playing 18 holes in their session. However judging by the scores of the day, the golf excursion was one of the most rewarding with many potential stars in the making.
Meanwhile, we had to say goodbye to Activity and Adventure as they left for How Stean Gorge for an overnight camping venture. After a full day of outdoor activities and a night spent in tents, we are expecting to welcome some very tired but satisfied campers back to the Village Camps campus Thursday morning.
The definition of an excursion is 'usually a short journey, made for pleasure and also for experience; an outing'. Therefore, together with the philosophy of Village Camps: "Education Through Recreation" we hope to have given our campers an irreplaceable experience as well as a learning curve on each of their excursions today.
We are ending session one of Village Camps York on a high and have much more in store for our campers before the week???s end so stay tuned!
