Summer Camp England

9th July 2013

Worldly Celebrations

The beautiful English summer continued to shine on Village Camps today as all campers were woken up early for brand new outdoor adventures.

Activity and Adventure were taken into the woods to learn some very valuable skills of survival such as how to build a fire and take shelter and how to find water. Meanwhile our leadership team was tested in a thrilling game of paintball that left some very tired campers and some very bruised counsellors. But the competition was not limited to the Blue group, with our yellow campers playing their first football match against the yellow counsellors and winning 13-12! Congratulations to the yellows!

The energy and excitement of the morning continued into the afternoon with Session D being preparation for International Night! One of Village Camps' most interesting events where each camper gets a chance to display their own culture through food, dance, song, skits and visual displays. Every single nationality worked tirelessly for the past two weeks to prepare what they thought would best represent their home nations.

The favourite part of the night as per usual was the chance to taste test a national dish from each nation. Campers filled their plates with chocolate slice from Croatia, tea from England, pancakes from Russia, chocolate fondue from Switzerland and Belgium and many more delicacies.

That was just the beginning of International Night at Village Camps, with the performance section of the evening beginning straight away in the theatre.

Team France added a little bit of humour to their presentation with a game show, Ghana taught us some words in their native language whilst Russia dazzled us with their dancing. Each presentation was so unique, and a testament to the variety of cultures at Village Camps that are able to work together to create such a wonderful environment. It's safe to say that the whole audience got to learn something new about each nation.

All the activity of international night can be seen in our photos from today!
