Summer Camp England

3rd July 2013

The Competition Heats Up

Life at Village Camps York was a little bit different today. The morning began the same with all campers enjoying a big breakfast before heading straight in to their morning programs. The LTC team was inspired by a guest speaker and our activity and adventure crew became a little bit wild in a giant game of capture the flag!

But it wasn't until after lunchtime that the competition within the camp really started to heat up. Our afternoon activities that usually follow were replaced instead by preparation for the two most exciting events of the year at Village Camps: BIG NIGHT and International Night .

Our International Night never fails to amaze both campers and counsellors alike as each camper is given a chance to share and teach the culture and traditions of their home country or region and show the whole camp why they are so unique. Each group has to prepare a national song, flag, dance, skit and food that they will have to perform and present next Tuesday!

This meant that the afternoon was filled with dancing, drumming, painting and laughing as our campers debated and practiced how to best show off their home nation. We are looking forward to seeing and learning more about the wide range of cultures that have been brought together here at Village Camps.

However the fun and excitement didn't stop there with preparation for The Biggest Night at Village Camps York beginning in our evening session. Campers from all three groups: Yellow, Red and Blue were brought together and split up into new colour teams with new leaders and a completely new theme to work with. On the Big Night , each team is judged on their entrance, their mascot and how well each of them go in the Big Night Games. So who will win it this year? Will it be the black team or the grey team? The outer space team, the rock stars or the under the sea theme? We'll have to wait and see who can take out the title for Village Camps York 2013.
