Summer Camp England

And So The Fun Begins!

The first week of Village Camps York is off and running! Despite a little bit of rain in the morning, all nine of our programs were straight into their activities today with an energy and excitement that Village Camps has never seen before.
As per usual, horse riding and golf were the two programs first off the mark - both going offsite to enjoy an action-packed day of sport from breakfast to late afternoon. Luckily the rain didn't dampen any smiles and all campers came back ready and enthusiastic for what the afternoon had in stall for them.

Meanwhile, our leadership program consisting of campers from the blue house, were treated to an Adventure Race through York city. Competition and excitement levels were high as our future leaders raced through the city in order to be the first team at the finish line. Thanks must go to the counsellors for creating the first big test of the skills of our new leadership group, in one of the most fun and adventurous excursions Village Camps has to offer.

In keeping with the theme of thrilling exploration, our Activity and Adventure groups braved the cold water to learn some new skills with raft-building. Although at first our campers were a bit hesitant to get wet, it wasn't long until the rafts were ready to ride and all campers were eager to see who would sink and who would swim. Fortunately all rafts managed to make it down the river (although some rafters might have taken a tumble in).

Back at campus, our Creative Arts department was getting busy deciding what animals their pinatas would be, whilst our Performing Arts campers were working on learning some new choreography. Our basketball and football coaches pushed our teams to the limit today, taking full advantage of the cooler weather to train the campers hard.

However, the whole of Village Camps really came alive in our evening event: 'Carnival Night'! Every year counsellors and campers from all three houses join in Carnival Night, a few hours of non-stop fun! This season the night was bigger and better then ever before with face-painters, a jumping castle, bouncy house and blow up Sumo suits! Each room of campers got their own sheet of tickets and whatever room had the most tickets ticked off for winning a game will get their very own party! With everyone dressed up, covered in paint and in the carnival spirit, it was a night that everyone at Village Camps will be sure to remember. Please check out the photos from last night to see the carnival campers come alive!

One of our Red girls Taline Ghandour had something to say about her night at Carnival night and life in general at Village Camps:
"The carnival was actually really fun, I think everyone had a lot of fun. People were exited I think because we had to fill a paper with cross every time we win a game and the team that wins, that has the most cross will be able to do a pizza party. It was really great but after the next day we had to wake up at 7:00am and that is really really really too early and we have to prepare ourselves quickly to go to breakfast. Then after breakfast we have to leave for our programms actually only (horse back riders) the others still have one hour before their programms. But we all have fun and then there is lunch, free time and other activity and at 10:00pm : BED TIME :) (finally I can sleep :) )"
