Summer Camp England
Last but not least!
What a great, long and busy final day! Today we celebrated all the work that we, both campers and staff members, have done for the past two weeks. We didn't even have the time to feel sad about the first session being over!
It was also the day of the competitions for the Golfers and the Riders who proudly went to lunch with their awards. Meanwhile Performing Arts and Football campers were getting ready for their events of the week. It was their time to be the stars!
Stars...that would be the best word to use to describe our performers! The Performing Arts Show was AMAZING. Dance, drama and singing combined with an engaging story provided us with a great life lesson! It taught us about RAOK or Random Acts Of Kindness. In this story the four RAOK angels strived to teach people to be kind to each other by showing them the consequences of their actions. The dancers impressed us with their great choreographies while the singers did an amazing cover of 'It's a Wonderful Life'.
However, Performing Arts' show wasn't the only event of the day. Some of our Blue House campers took the initiative doing the Kangaroo Court this afternoon! They dressed up in fun costumes and got to punish the guilty campers with a bucket of cold water. It was a lot of fun and an excellent opportunity for the Blues to practise their public speaking skills!
After the Kangagoo Court the whole camp went off to see the Campers vs. Counsellors Football Match. It was a challenging and competitive game played in a great spirit. The counsellors gave their best but couldn't beat the camper's team who had spent their days training hard with Neil and his team of football counsellors. The final score was three to one including the goal in the last second of the game on a counter-attack while the counsellors were trying to even up. But as our dear director, Glenn, said, it was one of the best game he got to referee, with an outstanding spirit!
The only less fun moment of the day was the packing time after the game but it didn't last for long. Because straight after dinner the kids met in the theatre for the first part of the evening, the Awards Night Ceremony. Each Program and each Colour Group got time on the stage to celebrate their programme and honour the best campers in the session. The great atmosphere in the theatre was even reinforced with the great slideshows put together by our photographers which reminded us of the best moments in the Session 1 at VC York!
And what a better way to finish off the two weeks session that with a disco? With the help of the professional DJ playing all kinds of popular songs the kids had a great time with their friends showing their best dance moves. During the disco the campers could take a moment and leave a message for their counsellors in our special video booth.
We had one last thing for our York campers in store. And this happens only at VC York. The campers had an opportunity to spend their last night with all their friends in their common rooms under the supervision of the counsellors. We do our best here at York to let the campers spent every last minute with their new friends and have a special last night memory from VC York. Sadly we cannot make this camp last forever and the kids are now ready to come home, tired but full of wonderful memories!
See you next year!
