Summer Camp England
Loaded with success!
The last day of camp is infamous for being an emotional rollercoaster, for campers and counsellors alike. Moreover, from the minute they wake up, they take on a busy, packed day. This morning all of the programs enjoyed each other's company one last time. Activity & Adventure's send-off consisted of a water-fight, with obstacle courses and relays. Golf spent a relaxing morning on the green while Horse Riding said goodbye to their horses. The English program organized a tea party, cucumber sandwiches and all. Creative Arts finally enjoyed the fruit of their labour and exploded the pinata that they had built, and finished their session sketching in the Secret Garden. Football and Performing Arts were working the hardest this morning, adding final touches to their techniques for the events to come.
After lunch, the whole camp filed into the theatre to watch the Performing Arts show. The eight campers put on a wonderful show, highlighting their awe-inspiring skills in singing, dancing and acting. Its message was clear: we are the only ones who truly control our own fate and it is possible for us to take it into our own hands.
Feeling inspired and motivated, the whole camp then flocked to the football fields to watch the campers play the counsellors. It was an action-packed game that stayed close the whole time until campers came through and beat the counsellors 6-4.
The already successful day turned into an evening highlighting the success of all the other campers. After a barbecue in the Secret Garden, the whole camp met in the theatre again for Awards Night. Every program and every colour group awarded certain campers for their achievements within their programs and among their peers in their colour groups. Our photographers put together slideshows of the entire session, pulling many a tear from the audience.
Finally, it was time to celebrate all of the achievements! One by one, colour groups entered the disco and spent one last night dancing, singing and laughing. No bed putting was required, given that all campers had the option of staying up all night with their friends in the common rooms or getting a few hours of sleep before departures.
Although many tears were shed and many more are to come, it is merely a testament to the love campers and counsellors share for each other and the genuine happiness that graced the beautiful campus for the past two weeks. A bittersweet feeling remains, made sweeter by the prospect of meeting again next year. Until then!
