Summer Camp England

12th July 2013

All good things must come to an end..

It is with thousands of memories, new groups of great friends and life experiences that we have reached the very last day of session 1 for Village Camps York in 2013.

However in keeping with the attitude and vitality of the last two weeks at camp, we couldn't let our campers go without an amazing last day.

It began like any other, with each program leaving to have their final sessions directly after breakfast. Activity and Adventure let loose with a giant water fight that left a few counsellors a bit worse for wear whilst the English program celebrated with an English style tea party (very appropriate) and academy awards presentation. The new addition to the English program this year, a project called VCTV gave our campers a chance to show off their journalism skills with their own personal reporting being compiled into a final video. A very big congratulations must go to both the counsellors and campers of this program who have contributed some amazing work and very consistent effort to each of these projects.

Creative Arts had a bit more of a chill out time with some sketching and drawing activities but were finally able to crack their pinata project that had been put together throughout the last two weeks. The basketball, horse riding and golf programs and LTC programs all sadly came to an end as well but with much celebration as all Yellow, Red and Blue campers were able to show off their brand new skills.

It was the football team's time to shine as they took our team of counsellors on in front of the entire Village Camps audience in the much anticipated all-camp match for 2013. Unfortunately it was the counsellor's year as they took out the trophy for this year's match, but we believe that will only inspire the footballers to come back bigger and better next year so they can reclaim their title as the best of Village Camps York.

Following that, it was our Performing Arts program who had the chance to show us exactly what they had been putting their talents towards in the end of camp performances. An amazing display of dancing, singing and acting talents dazzled our audience and taught us all a valuable lesson to be ourselves. A big congratulations to everyone who participated or assisted.

That was only the beginning of our Friday with the evening continuing on after dinner with the annual Awards Night presentations. Campers and counsellors alike dressed up for the occasion as the celebration of our two weeks together began in a variety of videos, speeches and commendations. From the most courageous camper to the future counsellors and the most improved, each camper was given recognition for the amazing effort they have put into their summer experience for 2013.
In keeping with our night of celebration a party soon ensued well into the night with plenty of food, dancing, music and laughter as friendships new and old were bonded together in an unforgettable final evening.
