Summer Camp England

7th July 2013

Sunny, Sunny York

Although Sunday is known as lazy day and a chance for our campers to catch their breath and prepare for another action packed week, it was far from lazy. Like Saturday, we had a later wake up (08.15hrs) that was greatly appreciated by campers and counsellors. After breakfast, we all had a chance to enjoy free time in the glorious sunshine. The temperature was a warm 29 degrees Celsius for the Wimbledon Mens Final day.

Unfortunately for some campers they spent more time in their rooms in the morning than others, as we had a room cleaning competition and inspection, but eventually everyone got to enjoy the outdoors in the late morning.

After Lunch we all boarded buses for the beautiful city of York. The Camp Director, Glenn reflected that this was the first time in three years he had been on the York excursion during lovely weather. The Yellow campers completed a photo hunt using their newly acquired Disney Store mascots, whilst the Reds completed a Scavenger hunt that took them all through the streets of the picturesque city.

The Blue group did something totally new. Upon arriving at our meeting spot, the blue counsellors went around the city and hid beside all the different landmarks. We played a Where is Wally type game, and when the campers found the counsellors, they had to complete set tasks to win points. One of the challenges involved getting fudge from the Fudge Kitchen. The campers enjoyed eating this fudge the most.

Later in the afternoon, all of the campers went shopping AGAIN. Just when all the counsellors thought that the campers couldn???t do any more shopping, they were surprised!

The highlight of the day for many was the brilliant Talent night. The Talent at Village Camps York is amazing. We had rap, singing, hip-hop dancing, belly dancing, piano playing, guitar playing and even one Red Boys group who demonstrated their talent of sleeping on stage! A really enjoyable and memorable night was had by all, but Glenn reminded everyone about the importance of speaking a common language in our wonderful multicultural community, and the need for sleep in anticipation of our action packed week ahead.
