A brilliantly conceived and popular programme instructed in English bringing together drama, dance, music and singing! The course has been skillfully designed to improve individual performance, encourage teamwork and is suitable for enthusiastic participants of all abilities.
This consistently successful programme is always directed by a highly experienced English speaking team chosen from drama and production specialists, singing teachers and a dance coach. The team works on developing the main skills of each camper but everyone is encouraged to work in all three disciplines.
During the first few days ideas are discussed and the campers, together with the teaching team, agree on a basic theme. The young performers are shaped into a slick unit with everyone participating. Actors, actresses, singers and dancers – all have the chance to shine and step into the spotlight. Campers learn about the inner workings of theatre production, stagecraft, stage production, scenery, make-up, costuming, voice production and the role of humour.
The state-of-the-art, air-conditioned College Theatre has 300 seats, a large stage, rehearsal rooms, storage for props, professional lighting and impressive acoustics.
The Performing Arts group travel by coach to a theatre in York, Leeds or Sheffield to see a professional stage show – usually a well-known ‘Musical’ – a real highlight!
The highlight is the Final Night Gala Performance – an exciting, colourful stage production of what was the original concept created by the performing arts campers during the first few days. The cast show their individual and collective talents in an impressive stage show attended by the whole camp – a really vocal and appreciative audience! Parents too are welcome to attend but in any event a link to a video of the complete performance is sent to each participant.
The Village Camps site, Queen Ethelburga's College, provides an exceptional standard of state-of-the-art accommodation. The Camp has an impressive range of leisure and sports facilities all in the glorious 'parkland' setting of the green Yorkshire countryside. Highlights include a full day excursion to Manchester with time for shopping and planned leisure activities in the impressive Trafford Centre as well as a half-day excursion to the historic, walled city of York. Here there is time to visit the famous York Minster and other major points of interest. In the afternoons and evenings, campers at York enjoy an exciting range of activities. Highlights are the fun team competitions on BIG Night, International Night and the Talent Show.
