This camp was pioneered by Village Camps many years ago and now operates successfully in York, England as well as its original base in Leysin, Switzerland. The Junior Adventure camp provides the perfect introduction to a residential camp experience for young campers.
Of course, we realise just how important it is to choose the right camp for your child’s first residential experience. Village Camps has worked with young children for 48 years. So, we know just how to provide a safe, caring and secure environment that guarantees a fun time for our young campers, some of whom may be away from home for the first time.
The programme is specially adapted for the 7-9 age-groups and is mainly a selection of the most suitable activities that are featured in our Sports and Adventure programmes. Our young campers are introduced to a variety of exciting activities and games working happily with their new ‘friends’ of the same age who come to camp from all over the world. Much of the programme takes place in the open-air with walks along the banks of the nearby River Ouse, adventure activities, sports sessions, ice-skating, music, dance and games. One of the short local excursions is usually to a nearby theme park.
Throughout the day, experienced, caring counsellors guide young campers through this magical programme. Under constant, patient supervision by Village Camps counsellors, each camper receives clear guidance, friendly help and real encouragement during each activity. With sensible direction and so much fun going on our campers are soon enjoying camp-life with their friends.
The Junior Adventurers camp is run in the style of a friendly club with its own exclusive club room which is the base for many of the evening activities or just to chill out after busy but fun days. The evening activities are a mix of special evenings planned just for the juniors and others where they join the older campers for the spectacular ‘All-Camp’ events.
Accommodation, Excursions & Activities
The Village Camps site, Queen Ethelburga's College, provides an exceptional standard of state-of-the-art accommodation. The Junior Adventure campers and their counsellors stay together in their own ‘wing’ of the College close to their own club room.
The Camp has an impressive range of leisure and sports facilities all in the glorious 'parkland' setting of the green Yorkshire countryside. Highlights include a full day excursion to Manchester with time for shopping and planned leisure activities in the impressive Trafford Centre as well as a half-day excursion to the historic, walled city of York. Here there is time to visit the famous York Minster and other major points of interest. The activity programme in Manchester and York is specially organised for the juniors. In the afternoons and evenings, campers at York enjoy an exciting range of activities. Highlights are the fun team competitions on BIG Night, International Night and the Talent Show.
Further details about the excursions and activities can be found in the "Country England Overview Pages".
The Junior Adventure Camp is ideal for any 7-9 year-old and suits those in this age-group who travel to camp with older brothers or sisters to stay at the same time. Although they will be on separate programmes, there will be time to meet up in camp and maintain friendly, family contact.
