Summer Camp Programme suitable for ages 10-17

Programme Overview

Our popular Golf Camp is aimed at enthusiastic golfers of all abilities from beginners to low handicappers who are serious enough to look forward to spending about 5 hours a day (including a short lunch break) learning to play the game. Lessons are held every weekday morning from about 09.00 through to 14.00 at Easingwold Golf Club, about 30 minutes drive from the campus. This professionally designed parkland course lies in an inspiring setting in wooded countryside a few minutes from the Georgian market town of Easingwold.

Lunch - at lunchtime, campers enjoy their packed lunches in the easy-going ambiance of the ‘Spike Bar’ with a TV and pool table. Twice a week a simple hot lunch is served in the Spike Bar.

Top Teaching from an Advanced PGA Qualified Professional Instructor

Village Camps is always committed to high quality teaching standards. This is nowhere more important than with the golf programme where dedicated professional lessons and a patient approach are vital to encourage and motivate the aspiring young golfer. Next summer will be our 10th year working with our much admired, long-time PGA professional golf instructor, Alastair Grindlay. Alastair is a well-known club professional and an Advanced PGA qualified instructor. He is one of the most qualified golf professionals in the area and has more than 20 years of teaching experience in England, Germany and Spain.

Alastair and his team have achieved notable success with the young Village Camps golfers over the 9 years that they have directed the golf programme. In this time our beginners invariably achieve their first ever handicaps whist experienced players usually show a dramatic improvements in their handicaps to take back home to their ‘home’ club.

A few years ago, a 13-year old Village Camp golfer had the thrill of making a hole in one!

The golfers are divided into ability groups to enjoy friendly putting and chipping competitions as well as opportunities to play a full 9 or 18 holes. The highlight is the much anticipated 18-hole ‘Village Camps Championship’ on the penultimate day. Alastair and his team consistently deliver a friendly, effective programme with so many of the young golfers returning to our Golf Camp year after year.

Easingwold - a perfect course for young golfers!

This delightful 18-hole course is 6699 yards long (5934 metres) par 72, part of an established Club dating back to the 1930's. With over 15,000 mature trees and challenging water hazards and sand-traps coming into play on several holes, Easingwold is an outstanding course. All golfers will enjoy the forgiving fairways, the short ‘signature’ 13th with its tricky drive over a stream and pond and the final, testing 18th, a par 5 with a dog-leg and narrow fairways. The Club is affiliated to the English Golf Union and the greens are constructed to the demanding specification of the US Golf Association.

Superb teaching facilities – some NEW!

In the years that we have based our Golf Camp at Easingwold the amenities and facilities have greatly improved with an impressive range of modern teaching aids. These now include:

Outdoor

Summer Camp a high quality covered 8-bay modern driving range

Summer Camp a new fun 10-hole crazy/mini golf course

Indoor

Summer Camp a new well-equipped teaching unit
Summer Camp ‘Mind Factor’ teaching facility

Summer Camp ‘Flightscope’ - a sophisticated teaching aid that analyses and improves the swing
Summer Camp a small indoor putting surface developed by Alastair where the gradient of the slope can be easily adjusted to simulate real putting conditions – with an in-depth putting analysis
Summer Camp  a projector for indoor lessons allowing our golfers to hit towards targets on the screen with each shot showing its on-screen, predicted course to the target.

These facilities are used generally but are particularly useful in adverse weather conditions.

The ‘VCTV’ Project’ - A fun way to improve spoken English ONLY for campers booking other specialist camps!

This is a busy, quite different programme specially designed for those campers who decide to choose one of our main speciality programmes BUT who would like to spend some time improving their spoken English.

So we designed this completely innovative programme to encourage every participating camper to have fun practising speaking English with other campers. All the campers in the team work together on this exciting project – and acquire new TV-production skills at the same time.

The ‘VCTV Project’ is operated by a mock TV crew of campers who work closely with our counsellor team to design simple daily programmes that make a variety of short TV broadcasts. Each camper has several different roles that rotate during the two-week session including Director, programme planners, camera operators, interviewers and editors. The crew produces a daily programme that is viewed by all campers who enjoy watching news, interviews, in-depth investigations and clips. These daily programmes appear on the website for parents to view. Every “job” involves discussions and co-operation.

So, every day, each camper just has to speak ENGLISH with his or her VCTV friends! It is fun-learning - not lessons – and it really works. The campers love it!

VCTV takes place on a total of eight weekday-afternoon sessions, each lasting 90 minutes.

VCTV is designed by a TV production and editing expert working closely with our English Language Director and her qualified English teaching staff alongside other specialists.
