This much-acclaimed, multi-course, intensive golf camp is for golfers of all abilities catering equally for young golfers who want to be encouraged to make a great start learning the game or more experienced golfers who already play the game and are keen to make rapid improvement and bring their handicaps down.
We are back at the welcoming Forest of Galtres Golf Course, as well as now incorporating the courses of Aldwark Manor and Swallow Hall to further provide an exciting variety of venues and challenges for our golfers.
Once again, the Village Camps Golf Camp will be supervised by Alastair Grindlay, an Advanced PGA professional and the new General Manager at Forest of Galtres working in partnership with his colleague, Nick Marchant, the newly appointed senior PGA professional at the course.
Our popular Golf Camp is aimed at enthusiastic golfers of all abilities who are serious enough to look forward to spending about 3 intensive hours a day learning to play the game or to improve performance. Lessons are held every weekday morning from about 09.00 through to 12.00 at the Forest of Galtres Golf Club, Aldwark Manor and Swallow Hall, each about 30 minutes drive from the campus. These professionally designed parkland courses lie in inspiring settings throughout the wooded countryside with splendid views across to the famous York Minster.
Village Camps is always committed to high quality coaching standards for all its sports camps. This is nowhere more important than with its long-established golf programme where dedicated professional lessons and a patient approach encourage and motivate the aspiring young golfer. Next summer will be our 10th year working with our much admired, long-time PGA professional golf instructor, Alastair Grindlay and his friend and colleague, Nick Marchant, the new Club senior PGA professional. Alastair has been a well-known club professional and an Advanced PGA qualified instructor for many years. He is one of the most qualified golf professionals in the area and has more than 20 years of teaching experience in England, Germany and Spain. Nick Marchant has worked with Alastair and with young Village Camps golfers for many years and both are looking forward to another summer together. Nick is a local and it was at the 'Galtres' club where Nick began playing golf as an 11 year old. After many years as a professional working extensively with young people Nick is delighted to be the senior new professional at Forest of Galtres.
Alastair and his team have achieved notable success with the young Village Camps golfers over the many years that they have directed the golf programme. In this time our beginners invariably achieve their first ever handicaps whist experienced players usually show a dramatic improvements in their handicaps to take back home to their ‘home’ club. A few years ago, a 13-year old Village Camp golfer had the thrill of making a hole in one!
The golfers are divided into ability groups to enjoy friendly putting and chipping competitions as well as opportunities to play a full 9 or 18 holes. The highlight is the much anticipated 18-hole ‘Village Camps Championship’ on the penultimate day. Alastair and his team consistently deliver a friendly, effective programme with so many of the young golfers returning to our Golf Camp year after year.
