This old-style traditional camp is set in the stunning surroundings of the picturesque mountains of Muskola, an area of outstanding beauty right on the shores of a pretty lake. Here at Swallowdale Camp programmes balance the morning lessons of well-structured and highly successful ESL courses (English as a Second Language) with water-based activities on Fairy Lake combined with a great choice of other sports and adventures in and around the camp.
Campers are accommodated in 6 to 10 bedded rustic cabins, with supervising counsellors staying alongside the campers. Each cabin is equipped with a washroom with shower facilities close-by in a central facility.
The programme is designed around five 1-hour instructional periods each day. E.S.L. (English as a Second Language) training encompasses two of these periods and is optional. The course is aimed at providing campers with the fundamental tools for communication in the English language. Campers are assessed and placed in one of three levels. Students who opt not to take ESL simply replace it with 2 activities of their choice. As much of the activity programme focuses on the waterfront, swimming lessons are available and certified lifeguards are on duty during all water activities. The remainder of the daily schedule is reserved for a wide range of land and water activities. All the instruction is by qualified counsellors with the emphasis on the development of skills.
All instruction is provided in English by qualified staff. Campers register for the activities of their choice with some of the activities offering the opportunity for campers to gain awards and have their skill levels certified.
