Summer Residential Camps
France
Our programme in the Ardèche operates out of a spacious activity
centre approximately ten minutes away from Vallon Pont d’Arc.
The site includes areas for volleyball, table tennis, street basketball,
petanque, football and language instruction. Campers and staff members
eat together (self-service) outside on the terrace overlooking the
river and sleep in tents on the same camp grounds in close proximity
to each other. Tents with one to three sprung beds, mattresses and
ground sheets are provided and bathrooms with shower facilities are
located nearby. Our camp welcomes up to 50 campers per session and
the team is comprised of programme and facilities staff.
Counsellors are teachers, activity counsellors, group leaders and
specialists. Each session, they are assigned to a colour group representing
campers of a certain age range. A colour group is divided into smaller
groups to which two counsellors are assigned. In addition to programme
duties, counsellors play a strong nurturing role. They are expected
to be positive, energetic and able to deal with diverse personalities
and behavioural issues sensitively. They need to have a sense of group
responsibility and be responsive to the needs of children. Days are
physically challenging and involve long hours on duty, often 24 hours
a day, day after day.
