CORK - A SUPERB CAMP LOCATION

VILLAGE CAMPS site is located twenty minutes by car outside Cork, within easy reach of spectacular beaches and picturesque fishing villages.  As Ireland’s second city and an important port and cultural centre, Cork is an ideal venue for campers from all over the world. Campers enjoy investigating quant narrow streets, browsing through small local shops and boutiques in the old quarter and grander shopping Malls, as well as searching over quayside walks and investigating the old port.

LUXURY CAMPER LIVING ACCOMMODATION

Campers are housed within a modern student apartment complex, one that was much appreciated by parents and campers attending last year’s sessions.  Each apartment unit is divided into three rooms with space for six or seven campers to comfortably share, along with a separate single room for a VILLAGE CAMPS staff member providing ideal on-site supervision.  All bedrooms have modern en suite facilities. Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable, relaxing lounge area. VILLAGE CAMPS has exclusive use of an entire floor, making the entire set-up comfortable, secure and practical for staff and campers. The complex has a dining room, disco area, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, games room and a private room that campers use for the chock-full, fun evening entertainment programme.

Breakfast is served in the apartment kitchen area or in a room exclusively reserved for VILLAGE CAMPS in the on-site restaurant which is also used for evening dinner service. Campers look forward to the popular weekly barbeque held on the adjoining covered terrace. As all specialist programmes continue though the mornings and into the afternoons, campers enjoy a substantial, freshly made picnic lunch plus refreshment.

THE PROGRAMME - FUN'S THE THING, LEARNING'S THE OBJECTIVE, DAY AND NIGHT

Cork programmes are open to 13-17 year olds exclusively and include three outstanding camps for Golf, Riding and English, with each programme enhanced by a challenging afternoon Leadership Course.

All camps take place in the morning and after a break for lunch, continue through early afternoon. During late afternoons campers take part in the adventures and challenges of Leadership Training, including such building experiences as problem-solving, decision-making and team work along with off-camp tours in and around Cork.

Evenings are a fun-filled mix of imaginative games, spectacular events and relaxation, too! Traditional happenings include indoor and outdoor Olympics, discos, Talent Night and cinema visit. Highlight events are an International Night Gala where campers sharing individual nationalities prepare traditional dishes of their country and the last night Camper and Staff Concert and Presentation of Awards. And there’s even more: campers enjoy a cultural evening of Irish folk singing and dancing and, perhaps, an evening visit to a Gaelic Football game –– the traditional Irish sport. It all adds up to super great fun shared by all!

CORK - UNBELIEVABLY FUN EXCURSIONS!

Camper’s visits and excursions are made even more exciting with competitions and prizes that encourage enthusiastic participation. Everyone has the opportunity to explore interesting places in and around Cork and, of course, have plenty of time for shopping.  Here are some examples of typical excursions planned (provided weather and general interest allows):

Blarney Castle - visiting the castle, dungeons, gardens and town and, of course, ‘‘Kissing the Blarney Stone.’’
Cork - visiting the town, the old quarter, shops and port
Fota Island House and Gardens - visiting the elegant House and its famous botanical gardens plus an excellent zoo for those interested.
Kinsale - a famous and quaint centuries old fishing and leisure port, deep-sea anchorage and strategic town, fortified for centuries to withstand its many would-be invaders. Campers enjoy a visit to the Fort, a walk along the port and time to shop.
Cobh (pronounced Cove), - the last port of call for the ill-fated so-called unsinkable ‘‘Titanic.’’ Students visit the site of a museum dedicated to the many thousands of Irish emigrants who sailed to America and to the victims of the US vessel ‘‘Lusitania’’ sunk off Cobh at the start of the First World War.

ACTIVITIES

A wide variety of additional activities are offered daily to all campers after their principle programmes have finished, and on weekends. The wonderful aspect of these activities is that they all involve both instruction and play, being supervised by competent coaches and counsellors with the requisite skills, experience and most importantly, enthusiasm.

The weekend includes accompanied excursions to terrific places of interest.

The activities Activities in and around Camp Cork include:

Basketball
Field Hockey
Fitness
Football (Soccer)
Games
Gaelic Football

Hurling
Irish dancing
Problem solving
Rugby
Swimming
Tennis
Volleyball

An old Irish bit of wisdom:

“May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go!"

To which we at VILLAGE CAMPS wish to add:

And may all Village Campers enjoy their stay with learning and fun throughout every day!!
