VILLAGE CAMPS, working closely with leading English language teaching specialists, have developed a winning new teaching format based mainly on using the spoken word, comprehension, small-group projects and role-playing. The achieved results, when applied, are stunning. Campers make unprecedented progress because they actually enjoy their lessons.
On arrival at Camp students are assessed and placed according to age and ability. Later, as progress is made, students may be upgraded as continuous assessment is conducted. The York language camp consists of 15 hours a week of targeted language instruction, usually in groups of 8-10 campers at various levels of ability. Students learn language basics by practising speaking together while using a range of specially chosen, interesting subjects that become short but fascinating ‘projects’. Students role play, develop ideas and discuss them – continuously using their improving English.
The work is serious but instruction is light and informal, always aimed at retaining student’s interest. Individual groups often move outdoor for lessons in open-air settings around the campus. There are special excursions to local villages and places of interest where they use Work Sheets with questions, all in friendly competition. The results are discussed and reinforced constantly during the week between teaching staff and student. At Camp’s end, students are awarded their certificates and a detailed report is sent independently to each family.

A wide variety of additional activities are offered daily to all campers after their principle programmes have finished, and on weekends. The wonderful aspect of these activities is that they all involve both instruction and play, being supervised by competent coaches and counsellors with the requisite skills, experience and most important, enthusiasm.
The weekend includes accompanied excursions to terrific places of interest. |
