An NEW Innovative camp: Extensive English Language Camp
For Campers With A Basic Knowledge Of And Comfort With English

VILLAGE CAMPS presents a new, more intensive, but, as always, fun English programme designed for campers with a basic knowledge of English but having limited opportunities to use and expand their skills in everyday conversational situations. Experienced teaching staff apply their craft to rapidly improve campers spoken English both in group sessions and outside camp.

Through frequent supervised task-driven projects, such as theatre, sports and excursions, campers get to use their English while thoroughly enjoying what they are doing, being challenged in fun ways, like role-playing, acting, singing, interviewing locals, debating, team sports and spending time in Cork researching places of interest and verbally reporting on thier findings. And all these fun activities are scheduled with English as the only language permitted. This unique, extended VILLAGE CAMPS programme is designed to increase vocabulary, raise individual standards of English and , most importantly, elevate the confidence of campers to speak English in unfamiliar and uncomfortable situations.

A NEW, EXTENDED, FUN, EXPERIENTIAL ENGLISH PROGRAMME

This programme will suit campers willing to virtually spend all session learning English (while enjoying it immensely) but who would be put off by unnecessarily going over the basics which they already know. Campers speak in one-to-one situations and in small groups, communicating solely in English as they undertake projects  through theatre, traveling around, sports and leadership challenges –– always under the watchful eyes of English teaching staff.

A fully dedicated, serious language-learning course, the methodology employed is based on campers having a FUN experience at all times.  The goal of this VILLAGE CAMPS Extensive language programme is that its benefits be presented within a language CAMP –– not language school. The system utilized has been developed by language experts and it really works -- with campers making extraordinary progress. Parents can expect to see vast improvement in camper’s spoken English as well as increased comfort with the language supported by greater confidence when speaking.  At the end of Camp, campers earn their certificates and a detailed individually written report is sent independently to each family.

HIGH-CALIBRE EXPERIENCED TEACHERS

Experienced highly qualified teaching staff rapidly expands the conversational English spoken by campers both in extensive classroom conversation and role-playing sessions as well as in activities outside camp. Lessons take place every weekday morning and continue through the first session of the afternoon.   On arrival at Camp the campers are assessed and divided into ability and age groups. Later, as progress is made, campers may be upgraded as VILLAGE CAMPS operates a continuous assessment system. The Cork language camp has thirty hours a week of advanced English language instruction and conversation, usually in groups of 8-10 campers all of whom will speak reasonably good basic English from the outset.

AFTER-LANGUAGE CAMP: LEADERSHIP CHALLENGES

A unique, new VILLAGE CAMPS programme enhancement enables campers to participate in late afternoon Leadership activities, including problem-solving, decision-making and team-building. Based on a selection of courses adapted from the award winning Swiss Leadership Training Camp (LTC), this provides a truly beneficial value-added element to the entire camp experience.

OTHER FUN ACTIVITIES AT CAMP

A wide variety of additional activities are offered daily to all campers after their principle programmes have finished, and on weekends.   The wonderful aspect of these activities is that they all involve both instruction and play, being supervised by competent coaches and counsellors with the requisite skills, experience and most importantly, enthusiasm.

The weekend includes accompanied excursions to terrific places of interest.

THE BOTTOM LINE

This is an excellent practical course for campers who would find a language school inappropriate and most likely boring as they already have good basic English Language skills. The VILLAGE CAMPS Language Programme advances the camper from the point that they have reached and helps them take their conversational English to a higher level over this extensive but fun three-week course. It serves to remember that VILLAGE CAMPS is NOT a school but a summer CAMP where all activities, even the serious business of improving language skills, are based on campers enjoying themselves and having a fun time. ''School'' is not for holiday time! The VILLAGE CAMPS slogan for more than 37 years has been "Education through Recreation" and this course is yet one more example of providing great take-home value for every camper.

In late afternoons campers can enjoy the innovative ''Leadership Challenges'' as well as varied evening programme in which all campers join together and make new friends from over the world (while continuing to speak English, of course!)
