Camp Journal - Leysin, Switzerland

Let's see, it rained on our festival on Friday -- it was a very nice day for our excursions on Saturday -- and it rained on Sunday and caused our trip to the pool in Aigle to be cancelled.  I sure hope that isn't a trend we have started!!

With the cancellation of the pool trip, campers were spread out over the whole area -- some went to Montreux, some to Aigle, some the various sports centres around Leysin.

Couple the spread of campers around the area with some camera problems and we almost didn't have pictures to post for today.

Almost - but not quite!!

Everyday at 13:30 there is an "All Camp Meeting."  This is a time for important camp announcements, information on excursions, etc. It is one meeting that is fun to attend as the counsellors in charge do their best to entertain as well as inform.

 

One regular activity at the meeting is the reading of notes from secret friends.  There is a box in the reception area of our building that holds the secret friend notes.  Anyone can write a note to their secret friend (a camper or a counsellor) without revealing their identity and at the meeting the person the note is sent to is called up and someone reads the note to them.

Today was excursion day at Village Camps, Switzerland.  You can read about the various destinations in the SpotLight story below.  The photo gallery contains pictures from the yellow group excursion -- we will try to get some pictures of other excursions to post at a later date.

Saturday is excursion day at Village Camps, Switzerland.  There are NO formal classes today - campers, organized by their Colour Groups make a picnic lunch after breakfast and then board busses headed for a number of different places.

The Green Group started the day at the Labyrinth Adventure Park -- a great place for lots of fun and a very safe environment for youngsters.  Around lunch time they left the park and headed for Vevey and ate their picnic lunch  at a playground along Lake Geneva.  Later then walked to the main shopping district and participated in one of campers' favorite activities - Shopping.

The Yellow Group did the same activities as the Green Group above -- only in reverse order.  The Photo Gallery below has pictures of the Yellow Group Excursion.

The Red Group visited the Salt Mines at Bex -- this is the lastri working salt mine in Switzerland and the campers get a tour of the mines - using a miner's train.  After eating lunch the campers departed for Sion for a little "retail therapy" (shopping).

All three of these group were back in Leysin for dinner.  In the evening they watched a movie or participated in indoor games.

The Blue Group also started the day in Vevey -- but their goal was to board a boat for a very scenic trip along Lake Geneva to Lausanne Ouchy.  After a picnic lunch at a park along the lake the campers departed for the main part of Lausanne for (you guessed it) shopping. Around 17:00 they boarded the bus for a trip to Villeneuve and dinner at the Golden Arches Cafe (McDonalds) and then to Fun Planet for bowling and other games.  This group was back in Leysin by 22:00
