Session 3 - Day 12 (7 August, 2008)

7 August, 2008

International Day -- a day with lots of history at Village Camps, Switzerland.  A chance to celebrate the diversity present at Village Camps -- and to show that "The World is our Campus."  You can see the different countries or regions represented in this sessions' celebration in the picture at the right. (The Greenies are the young campers in Junior Camp)

This morning the Outdoor Adventure Club went to the High Ropes Course in Aigle -- always one of the fun "adventures" for this club.

Both of these topic have a "Spotlight Story" below and have a photo gallery devoted to photos from that topic.  Tomorrow we will have a special photo gallery devoted to the food preparation for International Night -- a chance for you to see your campers actually working in the kitchen.  Here is a preview of this set of pictures ---

International Night at Village Camps, Switzerland

Today was International Day - a strong tradition at Village Camps, Switzerland and a chance to highlight all the different countries and cultures that are represented at camp. Last week the campers had a chance to choose the country they would like to work with. It could be their home country OR one that they would like to learn about. During the day the campers were busy preparing skits, signs, and authentic cuisine from various countries and regions.  This session had the following countries/regions represented -- Russia, Switzerland, Italy, France, Latin America, Asian Nations, U.K. Spain, Arab Nations, and U.S.A.

The Grand Salon was set up with a table for each country (or region) with a selection of food representative of that country -- all prepared by the campers and counsellors.      The campers’ cooking skills were very impressive. The tastes of all the different types of food was something worth experiencing.

After dinner, the skits and dances had everyone engaged and laughing. With so many nationalities represented, the results were colourful, loud, (very loud) and entertaining

High Ropes Adventure in Aigle

This morning the Multi-Activity Outdoor Adventure Club hopped on the Aigle-Leysin cog railway to Aigle to check out the High Ropes course.  This was definately a hit!  Campers were able to explore the tree tops by walking, sliding and jumping from tree to tree.  Smiles and laughing were the highlights of the morning.  Many were also amazed they were able to overcome some of their fears and build self-confidence.

The Outdoor Adventure Club is designed for campers of all ages and provides campers with a chance to stretch their "comfort bubble" in a fun and very safe environment.  The activities for this club include orienteering, outdoor living skills, mountain biking, rock climbing, exploring the high ropes course, and white water rafting
