Session 3 - Day 6 (1 August, 2008 -- Swiss National Day)

1 August 2008

Today is Swiss National Day

Really big day today -- the first Friday in each camp session is our Festival Day and this session it coincided with Swiss National Day. Classes in the morning - bar-b-que for lunch - lots of games and activities after lunch and finally a disco in the evening.

The "spotlight" story below is about Festival Day and the photo gallery has pictures of the bar-b-que, the games, and the disco.  We did have rain in the afternoon but it cleared up in the early evening and we had one of the great rainbows of all time.  There were fireworks in the village to celebrate Swiss National Day but they didn't start until after 22:30 and really couldn't be seen very well from our camp location.

Tomorrow is excursion day -- Blues and Reds are going to Geneva and Lausanne (Olympic Museum).  The Yellows and Greens are going to Vevey and then to the Labyrinth park.  Sunday is Pool Day in Aigle and the weatherman has promised good weather for both Saturday and Sunday -- let's hope he/she is correct.

I hope that you are having a spectacular day!!

Festival Day at Village Camps, Switzerland

Very special day today -- after morning classes, club activities, and tennis instruction -- lunch was a bar-b-que with burgers, sausages, veggie bergers, rolls, cheese, tomatoes, cole slaw, pickles, and lots of condiments.  Bar-b-que day is always a favorite with campers (and staff).  It is a chance to sit on the ground and eat with your fingers.

After lunch the Festival games began -- this is one of the few times when all the campers participate in the same activity.  Campers are divided into two groups - the Mohicans and the Vikings and compete in all types of games -- pillow fights, arm wrestling, tug-of-war, piggy-back races and the like.  Unfortunately, it started raining just as lunch was finished and we had to move the games indoors -- just as much fun and we did get to eat outside.

They did keep score for all of the events and I suppose I should tell you the winner.  This time it was the Vikings who emerged victorious.
