What a great way to start camp! Last night we played many games that allowed the campers to get to know each other and what the program is going to be a fun safe environment. Campers were eager to meet everyone that came in late last night at breakfast.
After an 8:30 meal at the Hotel Central Residence, we to our resource room at he Salle du Nord, a historic theatre in town. for introductions, logistics and teambuilding activities. Campers played trust building games, breaking barriers and had their first team presentation of counselor group names and mottos. Camp is officially under way!
After lunch, we had a presentation by Mr. Phil on effective leadership. Through a series of games and discussions, Mr. Phil introduced the idea that leaders need to be able and willing to take calculated risks. This includes both in professional and private life. Leaders have to have the ability to step outside yourself and include others whenever needed. This was a very entertaining and well thought out presentation.
Afterwards, the campers had a bit of free time to explore Leysin and do a bit of window shopping. A 6:30 dinner followed, then off to LTC’s version of the Olympics. Many extreme games were played in counselor groups to emphasize teambuilding. The teams began to form pride in their new groups and mottos.
The group appears to be bonding well and have goals of having a rewarding 2 weeks. Tomorrow we have a creative picture challenge in the morning, either an Amazing Day or the High Ropes course in Aigle in the afternoon and awards presentation for the picture challenge in the evening. Stay tuned to see what happens!
